Hello to The Page of Coins

Page of Coins: Touchstone Tarot
Kat Black

On Friday the moon slipped into darkness before beginning to glow and grow in strength again.  That’s my cue to pull a card to show me what energies will be useful to me until the full moon next month.

Say hello to Kat Black’s Page of Pentacles from the Touchstone Tarot.

This is the second time that I’ve employed Kat’s sumptuous deck for this exercise and it’s the first time I had a good look at the Page of Coins.

Coins equate, of course, to Pentacles and his appearance here lets me know that I will be focusing on the physical for the coming period.  Which suits me fine!

My nose is streaming and my eyes are watering – I am most definitely coming down with a cold.  Unless it’s hay fever *looks hopefully out of the window at the lashing rain*.  Unlikely.

I’m also trying to increase the amount that I run.  Well, when I say ‘run’, I really mean ‘jog.’  And when I say ‘jog,’ I’m really talking about the speed that an arthritic labrador can overtake me with ease.  But still, it’s a START.

And the Page is all about the starting….

Kat takes elements of many beautiful paintings (for example – Holbein’s Hans The Younger provides the Page, the table and book; Fra Angelico for the gold coin hanging on the wall) and seamlessly melds them together into a stunning new image.

In the accompanying book, Kat has this guy pegged as a scholar, someone who is prepared to get his head down and work through all the data.  She actually writes ‘slow and steady wins the race,’ well, my jogging is certainly slow and steady.  Not sure about it winning any races.  Unless that arthritic dog is up for the challenge.

For me, the Page of Pentcles is keen to try new things and is very hands on – so he’s more like an apprentice to me than a student (I’d associate that more with the Page of Swords).  However, I’ve just started attending an art class that will, God willing, at the end of 10 weeks see me producing a couple of Major Arcana Tarot card paintings/drawings.  Play your cards right and I might show them to you.  Maybe not.  You’d need to promise to be gentle with me.  We Pages are only little souls who are just sending forth little tendrils for exploration – we are easily crushed.

What does the Page of Coins mean to you?

Hi Alis,

I Love the Page of Pentacles. Looking at my RW Page, he is steady in his path but in the few readings I have done, I see him as a messenger to let you know that a new way to make money is coming, or a young man connected to your money project will be helping, a little nudge to show you he's there.
I don't like running..makes my fringe seperate!! Kills my knees and the red face doesn't do much for me!! You're brave!! Love knitting, but get so hooked, can't stop and then my shoulders hurt. Perhaps we should start a knitting pattern project….wouldn't a liitle page be cute??

Joanne – an accounting apprentice! I tell you I could do with a BIG injection of accounting savvy lol! Maybe it's time to pull on my Big Pants and woman up to the challenge of my finances !!!!

I do enjoy the jogging, mostly. I am built for comfort, not speed, y'see πŸ™‚

Totally in love with this deck, which is a shame in one respect (price), but I can see the value. Wonderful way to use this period's art. Saw the page and instantly thought "accounting apprentice." Reminded me of one of Queen Elizabeth I's counsellors at a young age, but that could be the Holbein influence. I just see this little Sun sign Taurus boy getting into his groove with the money thing, although as others have pointed out, the page of pentacles is usually associated with kinesthetic (physical skill) intelligence rather than intellectual. Still, the trudging along with nose to grindstone aspect is there. Have some fun, at least, with the jogging thing, although weather over there is often a challenge…:) 'Course it will be at least 90sF/30sC here from about now through September. Different kind of challenge.

To me, the Page of Pentacles represents the first stage of manifesting a particular goal or idea. This card isn't so much about the fulfilment of a goal or idea, it feels more like the baby steps we take when we begin to act on our goals/ideas in the real world. That's quite appropriate to me at the mo'… maybe that's why I'm seeing this Page in this light today. Oo-er missus! πŸ™‚

Dear Ed – I removed your comment because it looked like spam to me. The Page of Coins doesn't do spam πŸ™‚

I see him as the messenger about a new job or a way to make money. He brings fresh ways of new money. SOOO You're getting a job offer this month. πŸ˜€

Yes, he may have to read books, but it's the practical application of his knowledge that he excels at, imo. He's the kid that takes the radio apart and puts it allll back together. Apart from that one bit that's mysteriously left over πŸ™‚

Knitting – I need to do more of that, it's hugely relaxing – like meditating with knitting needles πŸ™‚

I have to agree, I always see this Page being more about learning something physical than pure book learning. Obviously, you can also learn physical things through books – plenty of yoga, or knitting books out there to attest to that. But it's about the focus. That's how I see him, anyway πŸ™‚
