SFX Challenge | Game of Thrones

Published by Alison Cross on

A while back I stumbled upon a site called SFX and a competition that they were running for people to design Tarot cards incorporating the characters from the Game of Thrones books (or TV show).

Since MY Game of Thrones is a nod and a wink to the OTHER Game of Thrones I thought that I’d share the finalists’ images with you (with permission from SFX)

There are a few here that I’d LOVE to see worked up into a Tarot deck, they have such nice technique!

To see the other cards by S.A.M. visit the SFX website:

What do you think of these efforts, aren’t they excellent?!

If YOU were to allocate the various characters in the series (to date), who would you allocate to each Tarot Court role and why?

The Tarot's Court Cards are my specialist area.  They talk to me. Not LITERALLY though ....

Ooooh! I am loving the fact that Margery Tyrrell is the Wheel of Fortune – so far (I haven't read the books) we've not seen enough of her and I think she's fascinating so the idea that we might have a lot more of her and that she might have her hands upon the Wheel is really exciting. Really hope it suggests we're gonna see more of her!

Is The Emperor 'the mad king' Targaryen? Interesting!

How anyone can say the daft Jon Snow is the Magician is well beyond me 🙂

These are fun 🙂 Can't really comment on the Court roles, as I've only seen the first season so far. It's interesting to me how many cards Daenerys Targaryen had been put on, but I can see it. She has a definite Queen of Wands vibe going on (can anyone say "burn"), but also Queen of Cups (such deep love). She's also an orator (one of the Swords Court, though not necessarily the Queen, in my eyes). And I can see why they chose her for the High Priestess, too, but equally she could work as the Magician…

She's also young and beautiful, which seems to be a great attraction for tarot artists! 🙂
