Your Tarot Court Card Theme for 2015

Published by Alison Cross on

Just a bit of Tarot Court Card fun to kick us off into the New Year!

Lots of tarot buzz on Social Media about THEMES for the year, as inspired by the Major Arcana card that your personal year correlates to.

To find our what your personal year card is, take your day and month of birth and add to 35 (ie 20+15, the current year).

Here’s an example: mine!

   13
+  8
  35
  56

Since there is no Major Arcana card numbered 56 (hey, we’re not using Minchiates here, people!), these digits need to be further reduced by adding them together, giving us a total of 11.

My theme for the year will be inspired by Justice (or Strength, depending what sort of deck you are using).  I’m going for Justice πŸ™‚

But since my blog focuses on the Court Cards, I thought we’d have a little fun and extend the exercise further:

Instead of adding up your digits, above, until they total 22 or under (ie the number of Major Arcana cards we have), total them up until they are 17 or less.

I numbered the Page of Pentacles, the lowliest of the lowly, as 1.  But your numbers will not reduce to one, so I’ve also accorded him 17 (because he’s also VERY special, as well as being the lowliest of the lowly).

So, if you add up to 17, then you are having a Page of Pents year πŸ™‚

Taking my example again, this means that my 11 – Justice year – becomes further compounded by Court Card 11…. wouldn’t you believe it?! The Queen of Swords!

Have a try yourself and tell me who you end up with as your Court Card theme for the year!

Page of Pents (1) or 17
Page of Cups 2
Page of Swords 3
Page of Wands 4

Knight of Pents 5
Knight of Cups 6
Knight of Swords 7
Knight of Wands 8

Queen of Pents 9
Queen of Cups 10
Queen of Swords 11
Queen of Wands 12

King of Pentacles 13
King of Cups 14
King of Swords 15
King on Wands 16

What a cool exercise!

Like some ladies up here, I got the Wheel and the Queen of Cups. Funny, I hadn't seen the Wheel in a while, and this very morning it popped out of my deck while shuffling for a daily card. As for her majesty, I'm currently taking Little Red Tarot's course, so I see it as a good omen!

Love and intuition to ride the rising tide, it seems…

I am loving that ! 'Love and intuition to ride the rising tide'! Hope you enjoy Little Red's course!

This is a fun idea, Ali! I work out as 7 – Chariot and Knight of Swords. I can definitely see how they are similar, and hope they can work together. Very dynamic energy, that's for sure, but perhaps with a need to do some extra research before charging into things. Interesting, too, as my start of the year reading gave me the Queen of Pentacles, which felt incredibly a propos. So, how can I move from Queen of Pents to Knight of Swords?… Cx

    Alison Cross · 8th January 2015 at 11:08 am

oooh that's interesting! To find out how to move from one to the other, take those two cards and place one on the left (QoP) and one on the left (KoS) and randomly draw three cards to lie between them that will show you how to make the move? πŸ™‚

    Inner Whispers · 9th January 2015 at 10:39 am

Now that's a good idea, thanks Alison πŸ™‚

Cheryl · 7th January 2015 at 3:57 pm

I will have an 11 year. Justice with Finess

    Alison Cross · 8th January 2015 at 11:06 am

Finesse is such a great word to describe the Queen of Swords adroitness! Love it Cheryl!

I have the Devil this year, so I am the King of Swords. Obviously I need a sword to help me free myself from those pesky devil's chains – well, maybe πŸ˜‰ Sezo xx

    Alison Cross · 8th January 2015 at 11:04 am

Ah the sword of intellect and common sense will keep you right, Sezo! Great sentence to link both those cards together too!

Alison · 6th January 2015 at 7:27 am

Same as Caroline – I have the Wheel and the Queen of Cups as well. Things are already turning (my last day at my old job today – hurray!) and perhaps I'm going to have to draw on the Queen's nurturing qualities to see me through what happens next. Thanks for this exercise,Alison!

    Alison Cross · 6th January 2015 at 8:00 am

Although she is a loyal character, she IS very adaptable to new circumstances – so make that work in your favour. Sounds like exciting times for you, Alison!

Caroline Blackler · 5th January 2015 at 9:04 pm

Thank you for a great blog post and fun group exercise πŸ˜‰

The Wheel and the Queen of Cups – I think that fits with my resolute but self-nurturing frame of mind looking to turn my life around over the next year πŸ™‚

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 10:17 pm

Be interesting to see how these guys play out over the course of the next 12 months, Caroline πŸ™‚

Margo Benson · 5th January 2015 at 8:12 pm

The Wheel of Fortune and the Queen of Cups…to truly go with the flow πŸ™‚

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 10:17 pm

I like that phrase to associate these two cards, Margo!

Welcome · 5th January 2015 at 8:03 pm

The Star and the Page of Pentacles for me! Whoop!!! Lots of positive energy around new projects and learning experiences πŸ™‚

    Welcome · 5th January 2015 at 8:04 pm

Good grief to the "welcome." It's Sharon from TABI (ex FR Monitor) *will have to go and fix that face*

    Sharon · 5th January 2015 at 8:10 pm

Well the Star is associated with Aquarius (i.e. technology, computers) and I learned something here. So I'm starting the year as I mean to go on lol!

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 10:16 pm

Sharon! I wonder why you are showing up as Welcome! That might be a message in itself lol! I think that your Page of Pentacles learning experiences will also benefit from being hands-on, rather than theoretical – get your paints out! Don't be afraid to aim high – to the stars!

    Sharon · 6th January 2015 at 9:19 am

It was my profile page. The author's name was set to 'Welcome' for the 'add my profile box'. All sorted now πŸ™‚

Ooh I hope so… welcome to the New Year because it's going to better than the last would be fantastic!!! Hands on is spot on for me this year. Things are going to get very crafty and I'll do my best to take things as far as I can. Thanks Alison! This was a great exercise and I'm looking forward to seeing how these cards play out during 2015 πŸ™‚

Anton · 5th January 2015 at 6:53 pm

Hmmm King of Cups, some Piscean moaning will be heard :p. Or may be it is simply that I should take better care of my emotions πŸ™‚ Thanks Ali!

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 7:03 pm

This year you will be walking the talk and actually DOING the stuff – counselling perhaps?

    Anton · 5th January 2015 at 7:14 pm

It looks like this year is work centered, hopefully not my day job *excited face*

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 7:17 pm

Just seen your post about your course – that's fantastic Anton! Well done you – hope that it's a great success for you! <3

Bonnie Cehovet · 5th January 2015 at 4:55 pm

Hmmm I end up as the Page of Wands. Have to think about this one!

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 5:26 pm

Time for you to have some new adventures, Bonnie! New creative forays! πŸ˜€

Queen of Wands and The Hanged Man… now that could get interesting…

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 4:59 pm

Gosh they sound quite tricky to manage! The Queen of Wands is all about getting stuff done, obstacles turn into challenges …personal effort. Whereas the Hanged Man espouses the opposite – going with the flow, surrendering the need to control and influence outcomes! Perhaps your Queen needs to exert control, by letting go?

    Anonymous · 5th January 2015 at 5:19 pm

Could be the year of the Serenity Prayer…
    Exert control by letting go…
That resonates for a couple of things though in different ways… which both make perfect sense in context…
    Thanks!! πŸ˜€

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 5:25 pm

The Serenity Prayer – how marvellous!! For anyone reading these comments who is not aware of this particular prayer, here's a link to it on wiki πŸ™‚ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serenity_Prayer

Coral Bale · 5th January 2015 at 2:05 pm

Justice and the Queen of Swords, If I find myself looking for justice for anything, I have to look at it in a cold, logical and detached manner, getting emotional is not going to help in anyway

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 3:19 pm

Queen of Swords is also sociable, witty and truthful, so don't overlook those qualities either πŸ˜€

Page of Teacups · 7th January 2015 at 7:52 am

I'm with you both for this year. Bit surprised as everything else is saying 'be heart-centred' and 'let out your inner child'. My usual way of (externally) dealing with difficult people is turning up the clever and using my iciest smile, but that is a front. Wonder if this is telling me now isn't yet the time to drop the mask in the physical world at least?

    Alison Cross · 8th January 2015 at 11:11 am

Now that's a VERY interesting observation, Page of Teacups! I wonder whether it might be suggesting that you do the opposite – start to be honest with other people about how you feel. Might be less stressful for you to start dismantling the front? It doesn't need to be confrontational, the Queen is, after all, very skilled at these sorts of communications πŸ˜€

Ellen · 5th January 2015 at 1:58 pm

Knight of Cups! Like Ania I think I have to develop his qualities a bit more. I am rather pragmatic like the Pentacles court

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 3:18 pm

Yes, perhaps the card is calling you to forge a better relationship with your emotional centre, Ellen? Will be interesting to see how this year works out for you if you DO decide to trust your inner Knight of Cups πŸ™‚

Donna Hazel · 5th January 2015 at 12:57 pm

Chariot and the Knight of Swords! Gotta forge ahead but keep hold of the wild horses!

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 1:07 pm

oh that's a great combo!! And a brilliant statement for synthesising their energies, Donna! <3

Vivianne · 5th January 2015 at 12:46 pm

I have IV The Emperor and therefore the Page of Wands ….whaddya think ?

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 1:06 pm

Practical application of creative talent in new ways – time to get focussed on a new skill! And the Emperor will make sure that you know exactly what you should be doing, where and when πŸ˜€

Ania · 5th January 2015 at 11:33 am

Hmm, Knight of Cups…I somehow doubt it. I'm not in the least off with the fairies and as for romance, hah! fat chance!

    Alison Cross · 5th January 2015 at 11:41 am

Maybe he's telling you that you will BENEFIT from embracing some of his qualities this year – even if they are alien to you πŸ˜€
