I don’t know whether this was a stroke of genius or whether I’m very late to the party, but it recently crossed my mind that you could read Tarot just like Lenormand.
I forgot about it for a while, but after reviewing the Marginal Lenormand cards the other day – which are quite large for Lenormand cards – the thought popped up again and it wouldn’t go away
Is this a bonkers idea?
What if you take all the Major Arcana cards and shuffle them, setting them out in 3 x 7 rows? The Fool Card sits with the card immediately behind it and acts as your significator in this new Grand Tableau.
How would you read it? You would look to see what’s going on with the ‘significator (Fool) card – what House is it in? and the cards adjacent to it – yes, you could use the knighting, corners, columns and rows Lenormand techniques too, why not?
Look for the interesting cards – the cards that fall on their own House, for example. Want to know about Love? what House is the Lovers card in? What card is in the Lovers House.
In this spread – the first that I’ve laid out like this – what do you notice?
The Fool appears right at the very end, with the entire weight of the spread above his head. He looks outwards and into the future though.
As a significator, he’s showing me that I’m in the house of The World – where all things start slotting into place and integration takes place. Excellent! I’m up for that. However, the Moon also sits there so this might all be a load of confused nonsense because I’ve gone slightly mad with this idea. True.
What am I thinking about? Il Pape – fitting in to what social conventions tell me is acceptable. That’s more apposite than you will ever know.
What House is that? House 14 – Temperance. I need to ge some kind of spiritual balance in place.
So, tell me about Love? The Lovers are in House 4 – the House of the Emperor. There are boundaries around the lovers. True.
Who’s in the Lovers House? The Empress sits in their House – that’s nice – indicates that the Lovers are in a good place – creative, bountiful.
What is ending? Look at the positions of Death and House 13 – Death sits in The Magician – the ego, the personal power place. That’s a bit of a worry. But hey ho – this is absolutely a speed reading to see whether this nonsense actually works! Justice sits in House 13. Whatever it is that is being killed off, it’s the right thing to happen at the moment. So I won’t fear this particular reaper.
And so we can go on and on!
What do you think – has it got legs as an idea?! Is anybody else doing this already
oh – and as a final point – what a great way to make use of a Majors Only deck that you’ve got squirrelled away somewhere!
