Feminism | The Tarot Queens

For the past ten days or so, I have been feeling as though I am living through the looking glass – and it’s not good, with cake that says ‘Eat Me’. I’m not even an American.  What a challenge it is to be a liberally-minded American at the moment, because:

YES, Trump wants to build an actual wall.

YES, Trump shuts out Syrian refugees from America (allegedly for only a set period of time. We’ll see)  Dear America, what happened to ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore’?

How sad that it should come to this.YES, Trump has removed funding from foreign aid family planning centres if they also offer abortions.  A woman’s right to choose a safe abortion on American soil is also under threat as he plans to remove funding from Planned Parenthood – and in Texas PP has already been removed from the state’s Medicaid programme.

YES, Trump begins to dismantle Obamacare.

In the UK we saw our Prime Minister HOLDING HANDS for a few moments with his man.  I can’t imagine for a moment that she instigated it – she holds the highest political office in Britain.  God, I hope she didn’t. *** Edit: apparently she held on to him because he’s afraid of going down slopes.  Bathophobia.  It’s a real thing.  And now the UK Government faces calls to call-off his visit – the democratically elected leader of the Free World – with accusations of ‘appeasement’.  That’s ‘appeasement’ in the Chamberlain-I-have-a-piece-of-paper way.

We’ve seen women (and men!) marching all over the world to show solidarity with each other and their strength of rejection of his point of view.  His America is not THEIR America.

You might think that I’m trivialising this but I thought I’d consult with the Tarot’s Queens to see what kind of message they have for us – please feel free to add your own insights in the comments, the more the merrier.

The Queen of Cups (above – The Druidcraft Tarot) urges us to nurture our relations with other women, simply because we are all sisters in a worldwide fight for equality.

Queen of Swords (Alexander Daniloff Tarot) – urges us to embrace our own goddamn brilliance and celebrate the brilliance, wit and intellect of other women.

Queen of Wands -(Thoth Tarot) urges us to go out and take life by the horns – be ambitious, be assertive, be courageous, be passionate, stand up and be counted and support other women who are trying to do the same.

Queen of Pentacles (Rider Waite Smith Tarot) – urges us to go out from our ivory towers and experience as much as we can of other women’s daily challenges.  Just because a lot of these changes don’t affect us, my fellow white tertiary-educated sisters, doesn’t mean we can sit at home and ignore the tyre fire around us.

What else do you see the Queens asking us to do?

The Tarot's Court Cards are my specialist area.  They talk to me. Not LITERALLY though ....
