One Singer | One Song | Which Court?
Something to ease you into the weekend….
At last! I have moved forward in time MUSICALLY – at least to the late 70s when the only good thing to come out of Northern Ireland (or Norn Irn as we like to call it) was the glory that was The Undertones. Ah, takes me back to the days when crimpolene WAS fashion π
My Perfect Cousin perfectly encapsulates that indignant feeling of being Not Good Enough in comparison to someone else. Someone whom YOU consider to be a real dipstick.
With his fur-lined sheepskin jacket, his penchant for University Challenge – just which court card might this icon of perfection be? According to his disaffected cousin, at any rate!
And who is the cousin who balks at the unfair comparisons?
Hope you have a lovely weekend – see you Monday!

As he's such a smarty pants, with a degree in everything, denoting a smart mind – and loving University Challenge (can anyone ever answer any of the questions on there?!), I think the 'perfect' cousin might be the Knight of Swords! And the 'miffed', jealous cousin, maybe the negative side of the Knight of Wands, bumbling in, making a mess, losing his job, generally busy getting into trouble all over the place, including chatting up someone's wife/girlfriend without realising they're an item … (etc!).

Hmm, I'll go for the perfect cousin being the Knight of Wands – he seems to have an overweaning sense of his own importance, and a desire to get into everything. He studies so many different things, academic subjects, music, fashion. Is he really any good at any of them, or just good at puffing himself up?
As for cranky cousin, I'll go for a pouty Page of Cups, who feels he should be the emotional centre of the world π

You know that line 'He's got a degree in Economics, Maths, Physics and Bionics!' I used to sing something completely different, and completely non-sensical…..I thought he had a degree in 'mathsisics' and used to sing that loudly and proudly.
Better than Tartarus whose versions of Squeeze songs bear NO relation to the words that were written!
The Perfect Cousin DOES seem to be an achiever, rather than just a puffer-upper (cos he's got his degrees!), but I can't help wondering ….Is He Really Happy?!
I love that line 'pouty Page of Cups' I may nick that π

I think the perfect cousin would be the Queen of Coins Rx–overly focused on personal appearance and societal status.
The cranky cousin would be the Knight of Wands Rx — always striving for the next best idea.

Again – totally different from Viv and Ania and yes, I can completely understand why you chose these two courts to represent these two guys!

Alternatively, the perfect cousin could be Page of Pents (serious, studious, mother's little golden boy) and the envious one is the Page of Wands (always grabbing whatever comes his way, going out on a limb, quite literally sometimes and falling out of the tree all scratched and grubby to his mother's despair)

Quite different from Viv's take, but love these too. I CAN see him as a Page of Pents – they strike me as fairly dour sorts. Which is probably terribly unfair of me!

It was based on a real cousin that one of the band members had. I wonder how that relationship panned out over the years lol!
Love the associations you've got for these two cousins π

When you said sheepskin jacket, I think of that dreadful moustachioed man on the insurance advert. Anyway. The Perfect Cousin is the Knight of Wands. And the Envious Cousin is the moody, sulky Knight of Cups π
